From Beyond the Garden

Our Mission

Our mission at From Beyond The Garden is to address food insecurity in Northern New Jersey by producing and donating fresh,

organic produce.

Our Current Projects

We are currently supporting gardens in three locations.  At the Madison Community Garden we have been provided with a greenhouse which extends our growing season.  We recently installed three large raised beds at St. Augustine to support the soup kitchen there.  In Paterson, eight parish families are each managing a plot in the garden behind the rectory.

Our Story

Jack and Elaine Needham participated in the JustFaith program at Loyola Retreat Center, Morristown, 2021-2023. “JustFaith Ministries creates transformative programs that inspire action to address the root cause of injustice while serving with love”. We learned that there is significant food insecurity here in our own backyard.

After the loss of our eldest son, Sean Needham, in January 2019, we were looking for a meaningful way to honor his memory. We began exploring ways to create a garden that would bring people together and provide fresh produce to food insecure communities, all in Sean’s memory. When we lost Elaine’s father and Sean’s beloved grandfather, Ed Gamba, in 2022, it was time to take action.
